Chagall between War and Peace, exhibition at the Luxembourg Museum
Chagall entre Guerre et Paix
From Thursday, February 21 2013 to Sunday, July 21 2013
Life experience.
From February 2013, the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris presents an exhibition dedicated to the artist Marc Chagall.
Chagall died in 1985, at almost 100 years of age, having lived through almost the entire twentieth century. This unconventional artist underwent a revolution, two world wars and two exiles as well as rubbing shoulders with the greatest artists of his time.
His body of work reflects his own particular experience of war and peace, happiness and unhappiness, but also his own experience, his memories, his encounters and his travels.
The exhibition reflects this double "resistance", both artistic and personal, which Chagall demonstrated against the painful experiences of his life. The images of happiness that he employs in his work seem to serve as a kind of exorcism for the images of war.
