Impressions in Montmartre Delatre, Müller, exhibition
Impressions à Montmartre,
From Saturday, September 14 2013 to Sunday, January 12 2014
The Musée de Montmartre in Paris invites the public to discover the golden age of etching in Montmartre. Bringing together a hundred works by Eugène Delâtre and Alfredo Müller, the Impressions in Montmartre exhibition places these artists in the context of the "colour revolution" that overwhelmed art on paper around 1900.
In Paris, Montmartre was then at the heart of artistic and literary Europe and the scene of creative effervescence that would spread across the continent. There emerged a generation of artists positioned between the impressionist masters of 1875 and the first generation of the avant-garde in the early twentieth century.
This generation of artists would be strongly and permanently marked by Japanese art and technical experimentation, especially in prints.
